Illustration
In the lessons about illustration techniques, the pupils learn how to analyze a text in order to interpret its essential meaning and how to translate the extracted sense in a visual form. Illustration is not a literal translation of a text, but its transformation in a clarified structure, able to transmit the basic thought like a summary. In the following examples the text the students worked on, was Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities” (Le città invisibili): an especially suitable text for this aim, because its words describe the scenes in a detailed manner in order to provoke the visualization already in the reader’s mind.
