Soapstone

In order to conceive an abstract sculpture and to realize it, the students first choose a piece of soapstone and try to imagine, just mentally, the form they could give their work. In a second step, they visualize their idea sketching it on paper and then they execute their project in three dimensions with clay, because of its easier to handle nature than stone. Once accomplished and satisfied by the clay proof, the students start to realize their sculpture with soapstone, a very soft material similar to stone. The pupils elaborate the whole process: starting from a natural form, imagining an abstract, three dimensional form from all sides and translate it into a real tiny mini sculpture.
