A House for a Friend

The concept of this exercise is inspired by a work by Thomas Berger, the Swiss architect who developed a series of houses for his friends in which he imagined a form of life and an architectural form corresponding to his friend’s character. The students worked in pairs, in order to conceive and to develop a project vice versa, one for the other as a precise portrait of each. They described the project, rationalising the formal parameters and how they were related to the portrayed person. Then they developed the first sketches and master drawings and in the end they constructed their model, imitating the materials to be used.
