La stanza

The photographic series “The Room” is inspired by Peter Bichsel’s short story “A Table is a Table” (Ein Tisch ist ein Tisch, see pdf left). In its prose text, Bichsel tells of an old man who is fed up with his life and how the world is functioning. So he decides to change all the names of the objects and starts to write down the new meanings in a very personal vocabulary, until…
… the only thing remaining for him is silence. Nobody understands him anymore, because he lost the correspondence of the language’s rules as an intersubjective agreement to understand each other. The words under the photographs in the pictures correspond to Bichsel’s new vocabulary.
